Mohyliv-Podylskiy got such a romantic name in history and literature because of its hilly terrain, exotic landscapes that could be seen from any place, the only thing you need is just to have the desire to see that beauty. The city is over 400 years old now and its founder is considered to be the moldavian master Iyeremiya Mohyla, who built his first castle here, made his daughter Mariya get married with Bratzlav magnate Stephan Pototskiy and presented them with this land. Pototskiy called the city Mohyliv to honour his father-in-law.

The destiny was severe to this land and to its inhabitants, they had to go through the wars and attacks, changes of the authority and numerous revolts. Mohyliv-Podylskiy was the place where the headquarters of the crown hetman of Poland Stanislav Zholkevskiy, well-known after the battle with the Turkish people, situated. At this very place Petro Sagaidachniy was chosen to be a hetman after the death of the first one and from this very place he lead the troop of Cossacks to Hotyn.

If we look through the statistics of 1861, we will see how industrially developed this city was. It had 27 oil manufactures, 3 candle manufactures, 3 beer and honey making industries, 10 brick, 16 tile and potter's plants, a tobacco factory, a saw-mill and in 1883 they started to build a railway here.

There were 32 000 inhabitants in the city, 372 stores, 13 visitant court yards, 6 shops, 19 wine-cellars were active.

Its inhabitants gave the Ukraine quite a lot of the Heroes of the Soviet Union, among them is the general of army Poplavskiy S.G., the general-lieutenant of the tank troops Tanashchyshyn T.I., the pilot Vitkovskiy I.P., Pyvovar V.G., Moroz A.G., the full cavalier of the orders of the soldier's glory Yaroviy M.S. became the hero of the socialist labour, the inhabinant of Mohyliv-Podylskiy Buyanov M.G. became the national hero of Italy. Many troops of the second Ukrainian front were called "Mohyliv-Podylskiy" ones.

The present day there are 36, 8 thousand inhabitants in the city, its territory is 21,63 hectars.10 enterprises are active here, the machine works is the leader among them. Its production is well-known in many states in the world. Mohyliv-Podylskiy is a boundary city and a state customs and a troop of frontier guards are located here. The young inhabitants are trained in 5 schools, in the local medical school, technological and assembly technical school and a branch of the plant of the German Hermann Keller and here the machine works takes its sources from.

The visit of the chief otaman Symon Petlura to Mohyliv-Podylskiy on October, 21, 1919 was a big honour to the city and the local newspaper "Dnistryanska chvilya" mentioned this fact.

The museum of local lore, 4 libraries, the school of music and the school of Fine Arts, the building of Folk Art, the building of schoolchildren, the city park of culture, sport sanitary complex "Naddnystryanskiy", stadium "Olymp" and four churches are the cultural heritage of the city.
